Good health care work is learned by doing. So the course mixes classes with practice.
You will practise essential patient-care skills in a controlled lab setting before working with real patients. Training may include mannequin-based practice and basic healthcare equipment, so you can build confidence in personal care, mobility support, hygiene, vital signs, infection control, and emergency response.
The course includes guided hospital observation and supervised practice, where you learn how a real healthcare workplace functions. You will observe and, where permitted, assist with routine patient-support activities under the direction of trained staff.
You will maintain a practical logbook throughout the course. In it, you record the procedures, patient-care activities, and clinical exposure you receive. Your trainer or clinical supervisor reviews and signs the logbook to confirm your progress.
Hospital posts and practical sessions are compulsory. Students must meet the required attendance and complete the prescribed practical hours to be eligible for the final assessment and certificate.
After you complete the course and pass the required assessments, you receive the Certificate in Health Care Assistant. The programme follows the BSS-pattern curriculum and examination pattern, with AIPS operating under centre code AHS048.
